Professional home security installation
Licensed installers, your floor plan, one appointment
Licensed installers, your floor plan, one appointment
A home security system only works if the sensors are in the right places. Professional installation means somebody walks your floor plan, finds the entries that actually matter, mounts everything properly, and tests the whole system with the monitoring centre before leaving.
What a professional installation includes
- A walkthrough of your property before anything is mounted
- Touchscreen control panel fitted where you will reach it on the way out
- Door and window contact sensors, sized to your floor plan
- Motion detectors positioned to ignore pets under about 40lb
- Cable routed out of sight, not stapled along the skirting board
- A live signal test with the monitoring centre before the installer leaves
- A walkthrough of the app, arming modes and what happens on an alarm
Why placement decides whether it works
Most false alarms come from sensors in the wrong place — a motion detector aimed at a heating vent, a contact sensor on a door that flexes in the wind. A licensed installer has seen those mistakes and designs around them. That is the real difference between a professionally installed system and a box of parts.
Wireless or hardwired
Most new residential installations are wireless: adhesive or screw-mounted sensors talking to the panel over an encrypted radio link, with cellular and battery backup so cutting the internet or the power does not disable the alarm. Hardwired installations still make sense in new builds or where an older system is being replaced and the cabling already runs. A professional installer will tell you which applies at your address.
How long it takes
A typical system for a three or four bedroom home takes two to four hours, start to finish, including the walkthrough and the app setup. Larger properties, or systems with several cameras and smart locks, take longer. Same-day and next-day appointments are often available, but that depends on the provider and your address — the specialist confirms it on the call.
